A
local move is any move that begins and ends within a radius
of approximately 50 miles. It can be within a single state or
between two states. In order for a moving company to perform
a move within a state the mover must be licensed by the state
Public movers and Warehousemen. For a move between two different
states, the mover needs to be licensed by the U.S. Department
Of Transportation. Charles Moving & Storage is one of very
few tri-state area movers that is licensed by the state of New
York , New Jersey and Connecticut to perform intrastate moves
and as well as by the U.S. Department of Transportation for
all interstate moves. It is important when choosing a mover
to verify that the mover is licensed within the state you are
moving. If your mover is licensed, it will mean that your mover
has filed his workman's compensation, liability, and cargo insurance
information with the state authorities.

Pricing
- Moving services can be very costly. Regardless of the cost
of your move, it is very important to us that you understand
what you are paying for. In a normal move, the charges will
be broken into 4 different components as follows;
Labor
- The labor is the price you are paying for each mover for each
hour that work is being done. The hours are broken into 15 minute
increments. For example, if you move starts at 9 am and ends
at 1:15 , you will be charged for 4 hours and 15 minutes. Each
move requires a different sized crew. Charles Moving & Storage
quotes prices by the crew. The price per crew includes the appropriate
sized truck.
Travel
time - The time it takes to travel from one location
to the next.
Packing materials - In order to perform your
move in a professional manner, specific materials are needed
to protect your household goods during handling and transport.
We charge only for cardboard boxes, and moving supplies used
during the move. We do not however, charge for padded moving
blankets needed to protect your furniture.
Insurance
- Moving companies are required by law to provide customers
with insurance coverage at no additional cost. This type of
insurance is based upon weight and will not cover actual value
of an item damaged or lost during a move. You can supplement
the coverage by purchasing additional coverage. The rates range
from $5 to $10 per $1,000 of coverage requested and depends
upon the area you are moving from, and the area you are moving
to.
