Equifax
is one of the three major credit reporting agencies. Equifax is based
in Atlanta, Georgia and is easily accessed via the Internet. Equifax
collects, stores and provides information about your credit history.
Equifax Credit Reports
An
Equifax credit report can be obtained online through the Equifax site,
as can a variety of both personal and business credit report services.
An
Equifax credit report is used by landlords and others, in addition to
those of the other two major credit reporting agencies, to make tenancy
and credit decisions about potential renters. Aside from the obvious
uses in determining credit worthiness for credit cards, mortgages, and
car loans, the information from the Equifax report may also be used
by some utility companies, student loan providers and insurance providers.
Check Your Credit
Having a current, up-to-date Equifax report can be a valuable tool in
helping you keep a close watch on your credit status, preventing any
credit reporting errors that may have a long-term effect on credit status.
You May Qualify for a Free Credit Report
The Fair Credit Reporting Act entitles you to a free credit report if
you are:
-
Unemployed
and intend to apply for employment within 60 days;
-
Receiving
public welfare assistance;
-
A
person who believes your credit file contains inaccurate information
due to fraud; or
-
A
person who has been denied credit or insurance in the past 60 days.
